There was so much talk about low water levels and we had already seen how low the water was in May. Yes, it was low but there is still so much water in Lake Powell that you are still able to go and have fun.
It didn't start out great...at 6pm the night before we are supposed to leave Vickey got a call from the Houseboat Rental saying they needed to cancel us because they didn't have enough houseboats. We told them how we already had family on their way and they needed to find something for us. They told us they'd provide a houseboat as a hotel room at the dock the first day and then would give us an older boat.
They asked us not to come until later and then it was such a long wait so the first day we really didn't get to do much. The house boat they put us on was amazing though. We asked why we couldn't use that one and they just kept saying we couldn't until finally someone told us that Steve Young and his family would be using it. It was brand new...as in it still didn't even have all the ceiling fans blade installed. It was so hard for us to go from that really nice boat to the older one they gave us.
The second day we used a really nice what I call float boat to go play on all day. A monsoon storm started coming in and so we started heading back and we were getting pelted by rain. Preston & Aydon were the two "lucky" ones that got to ride the jet skis back and I felt bad for them. We came across 2 teen girls on jetskis and they were trying to wave us down. Turns out they got lost and the younger teen was freaking out. We shared our map with them but the older one didn't know where they were and so we just got to where we could get cell service and they called for help. Once the younger teen calmed down, she was able to tell us where they were but in her panic mode she just couldn't think straight. We waited for their help to come to them since they were almost out of gas and that put us getting back to the dock super late so we ended up staying at the dock for a 2nd night.
We decided to camp in a new spot up Navajo Canyon which was the very first canyon out of Antelope Marina (our first time using that marina this year). Since we had never been down it before we can't compare obviously but we it didn't have too many camping spots. We had a nice sandy area and protected waters where kids could play in some shallow water with not many waves.
This was our year of helping...we had some foreigners that could barely speak english stop and ask for gas for their jetski because they were lost and almost out of gas as well.
I pointed out that this was possibly our last year as a family of 7 going to Lake Powell. I didn't take many pictures this year...just tried to be in the moment. Ty in a splint for 2nd year in a row but this splint was much better and he actually was able to take it off and dry off so that helped a lot.
We started a game on the tube this year where we put all 8 kids on their and it was supposed to be last man standing. Once it was down to 3 or 4 though not much happened but it was fun to watch my boys wrestling and trying to push each other off. Aydon kep playing like he was falling off and would pull himself back on...I have a couple pictures of that.
