Long overdue day in the woods

I had wanted to get in a couple of camping trips this summer but with Little League & All Stars it didn't work out.  We had one last free day when Preston was off so we spent the day in the woods.
First turn we made we saw an antelope.  Great sign for a good, right?  We ended up seeing some elk as we drove towards Woods Canyon Lake.
We had a picnic along the rim road.  Sunshine was making herself a grilled cheese sandwich.

I watched Drew pick up these rocks, then make a stack and then carried the stack.  No clue what he was planning to do with them though.
Sunshine couldn't believe Zack didn't know how to tie a knot.  She taught him and then the next week I tried teaching him how to tie his shoes (again...just hasn't clicked yet).
Right after our lunch we spotted two deer and an elk.  Yay for spotting deer since we had just found out that Preston & Aydon have a deer tag in this area.
The boys couldn't stand being this close and not going to the swing.

Jailyn then asked to drive so we loaded up all the boys in the back of Sunshine's truck & Preston let his niece drive.

We came up on a huge herd of elk and followed them and ran into them 3 more times.

We took one of our favorite rides and found this big bull elk, which again, Preston & Aydon have a tag in this area so we were super excited to see one.
In all the excitement of seeing this huge bull, we didn't even realize there was another right next to him until they started walking away.

We had taken the boys BB guns and Preston's 22 to shoot and it was getting close to sunset time so we figured we better stop and do some shooting.  Everyone was so excited to get their turn.  Jailyn was especially excited since it was her first time.

On the way home we ran into a huge herd of antelope.  I had to take 3 pictures to get the whole herd.

In Preston's magical spot he spotted his herd.  You can see there were quite a few bulls,
and then we spotted the cows.
Such a great day!

Creek

This has been the best year for us getting to the creek.  With Preston's work schedule we were able to go nearly everyday in June.  After my injury they went a few times without me until I felt confident enough to climb up and down the rocks again.  I still took my life jacket to swim.

Dexter has always liked the creek but this year he could always tell when it was time and there was no way he wasn't going to not go with us!  It took him a couple of trips to figure out just to jump in and swim with the boys when we would swim across the creek to go jump off rocks.

This is just a picture of the 2014 someone sprayed  a ways down from our spot.
The boys love this spot because there's a descent sized rock for the older two to jump off of.

I love this spot because there's a nice, flat rock that I lay on and relax while the boys jump & play.
And this is a descent rock for the younger two to jump off or for diving.

Aydon begged to dive off the rock they chose to name Dragon.
