With Drew's 4th birthday approaching, we decided it was time to get him out of our bed. We have tried before and had success a few nights out of the week for a few hours but still usually ended up in our bed. Well about three weeks ago we started putting him to sleep in his bed. Again, he'd make it a few hours but he has gotten better and better. He has slept in his bed for the full night most nights for the last three weeks. He still comes and asks to sleep with me if Preston's at work but I try to be strong and say no. I know they're only little once but if we keep giving in he'll be a teenager sleeping in between Preston & I still. lol
A couple of months ago I looked ahead at our schedule and realized Drew's birthday was on a Saturday and there was no football going on. Poor kid, has never had a friend party so I decided this would be the year. Of course when I asked him what kind of party, he said Mickey Mouse. He then changed his mind a couple of times afterwards but I had already started planning and gathering things.
We told his teachers we wanted to bring cupcakes to preschool on Friday for his birthday. He was so excited to take Mickey Mouse cupcakes for all his friends. His teacher sent me this picture.
Preston helping decorate the cake on his lunch break.
This is the second time we've made this cake...Zack had one like it a few years ago.
Vickey had bought him a Mickey candle seriously like 6 months ago. I pulled it out and opened it and it fell into 4 pieces! Drew was very upset and wanted me to glue it, but it wouldn't have worked.
I looked through pinterest and had Drew pick things he wanted to do for his party.
We used Toodles to help pick the game we would play next.
Benny picked the mystery mousekatool first and it was too dig in our pit of balls.
They each found a glow in the dark toy.
Drew picked the button next for Pin the button on Mickey.
Drew & Benny loved spinning Preston.
Preston threw me off by spinning me backwards. I've never been spun to the left and I was so disoriented. I did the worst.
Zack won!
It was Benny's turn to pick a game and it was onto toilet paper bowling.
After they took a few turns they had to go check out the chickens, swing & jump.
When it came time to play our last game everyone was so hot so Drew took a turn and then we decided to take the games inside to finish playing them.
Thank goodness for brothers...the two other friends were unable to attend but you couldn't tell with all the noise!
Checking out the goodie bags.
The funniest thing...Drew & Benny both discovered the Ring Pops in their bag at the same time and had the same reaction, yelling "YES!!!!"
Drew showing off his skateboarding skills, a present from Benny.
Immediately after the friends party, we planned to have a family dinner to celebrate John & Drew's party. My mom made Navajo Tacos and made a special piece of frybread for Drew.
He got to open more presents & then did a fashion show with all his new clothes.
Drew and John have a war every year over birthdays and Drew was throwing some wrapping paper at him to get back at him teasing him about his birthday being first.
John told him to be nice because he had the best present for him...a battery-power Mickey Mouse car.
Somebody was super jealous!
After a huge hissy fit we let him have a turn and this is what he did.
Drew was happy to get some birthday money from the Bowman's. They bought him a birthday card with a '5' on it because they thought that's how old he was turning because how well he talks and how old he acts. People are always shocked to hear his age, thinking he's older.
The annual picture! It's so funny because after all the fighting over birthdays they do every year, Drew is always so sweet and wishes John happy birthday (but not until after he's gotten all his presents...lol).
Shawna decorated John some cupcakes.
This was the present I made for John. since he always comes and drinks all my soda and candy.
Drew was so excited about the new swim outfit Granny & Pappaw got for him and insisted on going and trying it out.
So 6:30pm we took him to the creek and he swam. I figured he would jump in once and be done but he jumped at least 10 times!
It took Zack a while to do it but he finally jumped in and went for a swim too.
Happy Birthday to our "baby"
Before the DeSpain's left, they bought him some new cowboy boots. I had also bought him a pair but he loved these boots so I returned the ones I bought.
